Hey everybody, this is Dr. Pat from the Springfield Wellness Center. And today we’re going to talk about deep tissue laser, which is one of the therapies that we offer here at the Springfield Wellness Center to help heal whiplash quickly.
Whiplash is a condition that stems a lot of times from some type of trauma that involves rapid head movement that’s going to irritate and affect all the soft tissues of the neck, the upper back shoulders, even into the base of the skull there as well. So whiplash, a lot of people commonly know come from car accidents. People maybe know someone, or maybe they’ve experienced this for themselves. Car accidents are certainly one of the most common and most frequently occurring causes for whiplash. But whiplash can happen from other things. It can happen from sports injuries, it can happen from a slip and fall, it can happen from many other life events. And so we always want to get a good history and understand what happened to cause these types of conditions, so we can better understand how to help these individuals with their problems. A lot of times the presentation is pretty similar, extreme muscle tightness, extreme muscle tension, inflammation. And it’s very irritating and painful to go through pretty much any type of range of motion movements in the neck. And so one of the things we utilize for this type of injury is deep tissue laser therapy.
Deep Tissue Laser Treatment
Deep tissue laser therapy is basically designed to help the muscle tissues to heal faster, and to also help with the inflammation as well. So a deep tissue laser utilizes red light, which is able to penetrate really deep into the tissues, all the way down to the cellular level of the tissue. And what it does there as it helps to stimulate the cell in the right ways to help produce more energy. And that energy goes towards that feeling it helps to combat inflammation, it helps to ramp up the healing parameters of the tissues so that they can get back to where they were quicker than they would otherwise have. For today’s video, I want to demonstrate what this looks like real quick and it’s a very simple process. Most people are either laying down or sitting up, the laser itself takes about five minutes to do the full treatment. And the only thing the patient might feel is a little bit of warmth in that area. But otherwise, it’s very painless, it’s actually quite comfortable. But all the while that light is doing its work going down to the tissue level there. So I’m going to demonstrate that process real quick.
How The Process Works
First I put on my safety goggles, and then grab the light here, there’s this little wand, it has a massage ball, and what we’re going to do is just apply it onto the neck tissue here, Dana. So we’ll go up along the line at the track muscle here, down in the shoulder, up to the base of the skull, along through here and over here to the SEM muscle as well going into the back of the ear, a very common muscle for turning the head over to the other side as well. From all through this area, just allowing that light to do its thing. And so I put that back. For the purposes of this video, I’m not going to do the full five minute treatment. But just to give you an idea of what it looks like, just to show you what the light looks like, where it goes, how it’s applied. Just to give you an idea and make you more familiar with what deep tissue laser is. It’s a fantastic supplement to the care that we provide, you know through chiropractic massage exercise. It really helps kind of bring the whole puzzle together when it comes to helping people heal from whiplash type injuries.
